True Stories with Johnny Vernazza of the Elvin Bishop Group perform "Fooled Around and Fell in Love"!

Sounds Like San Diego VI was held on July 11 2014 at the Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad, CA - the event included a performance from True Stories with special guest Johnny Vernazza (formerly of the Elvin Bishop Group) - here he performs one of the classics he originally played on, "Fooled Around And Fell In Love" (#4 / 1976), as heard in the film, Guardians of the Galaxy. The band this night featured Bart Mendoza, David Fleminger, Danny Cress, Orrick Smith, Scott Mathiasen and Normandie Wilson. Video by Sherri Allen. Vernazza is now a San Diego resident - In 1973 he recorded part of the Elvin Bishop Group album, Still Smokin', at the San Diego Civic Center.

Bart Mendoza will be part of the all star FREE Christmas eve show at the Casbah, featuring Schitzophonics, The Diddley Daddys and a closing set of Rolling Stones covers helmed by Lauren Scheff. Bart will be a singer along with Robert Lopez (The Zeros), Alicia Champion, Stevie Harris (The Styletones) and more with a stellar band that includes Jake Najor, Dave Good, Kevin Martin and Rick Wilkins. Doors open 8 p.m. 21 and up.

Manual Scan records theme song for Tim Pyles radio program - on 91X !

Manual Scan returned to the studio November 6 to record a "theme song" for San Diego radio icon Tim Pyles local music program on 91X, Loudspeaker . The 26 second tune was written by Bart Mendoza, with production by Grammy winning producer, Alan Sanderson, at his Pacific Beat Studios.

The Shambles feature on new Jon Kanis compilation, All American Mongrel Boy

Jon Kanis has released a career spanning collection, All American Mongrel Boy (1989 - 2014). A number of notable musicians show up in the tracks including Mike Keneally (Frank Zappa, XTC, Dethklok) and Darian Sahanaja  (Brian Wilson, The Zombies, Heart). The Shambles (Bart Mendoza, Mark Zadarnowski, Kevin Ring, Bill Calhoun, David Klowden) appear backing Kanis on his song, "It Is and It Isn't." The song, recorded at San Diego's Blitz Studios by Richard Livoni, was originally released on Staring at the Sun Volume III in 1995, via Blindspot Records. It  was also part of the Shambles long out of print rarities compilation, Reviving Spark (1997), released only in Japan, by 1+2 Records. It  also shows up on a documentary sound track this month.

True Stories makes an appearance on talk show, Tonight in San Diego

True Stories - featuring Bart Mendoza, David Fleminger, Danny Cress and Mark DeCerbo made an appearance on episode 12 of the talk show, Tonight in San Diego. Bart and David were interviewed (27:12) and the band played the song, "Hearts on Sleeve" (36:45) as well as a few bars of "In Your Arms" (41:15) over the closing credits. The show also includes a cooking segment with author Cathlyn Choi, a monologue and more. The band also played "You Still Take My Breath Away," "Can't Seem To Make You Mine," "Problems of Her Own" and "There's A Lot of Different Ways To Get To School," but these were not broadcast.

True Stories bassist, Billy Fritz farewell show

Sadly, True Stories bassist Billy Fritz is relocating to Colorado, but he'll be playing one last show, Thursday February 20 at the Tin Can Alehouse in San Diego, on a bill with Adam Marsland and the Llamadors. Over the years Billy has played with such groups as the Scavengers, The Coyote Problem and many others.
