1984 Manual Scan "American Way" video surfaces

A video shot in 1984 for Manual Scan's song "American Way," has been posted online. Taped for a San Diego music program, it's one of five that were recorded that day, all from the debut "Plan of Action," though only "New Difference" is still known to exist. While the quality isn't 100%, it's discovery lends hope the other clips will surface eventually.

2012 Soundboard video - Exile on Kettner "B-Team"

Here is soundboard audio and video of the 2012 Christmas Eve Exile on Kettner show at the Casbah in San Diego. "The B-Team" , consisting of singer Mario Escovedo (The Dragons), drummer Paul Brewin (Ypsitucky, Drip Tank, Uncle Joe's Big Ol Driver, Manual Scan), bassist Michael Halloran (radio legend), lead guitarist Ian Trumbull (Ypsitucky, El Monte Slim) and rhythm guitarist Bart Mendoza (True Stories, The Shambles, Manual Scan) played a five song set of sixties Rolling Stones covers during the intermission. The whole show has been posted in parts - Part 12 kicks things off with renditions of "The Last Time" and "It's All Over Now." The following clips include versions of  "Get Off My Cloud" and "Let's Spend The Night Together" where the band is joined on lead vocals by Robert Lopez aka El Vez and Maren Parusel. The segment ends with Steve Poltz joining the band for a rendition of "Satisfaction."

True Stories at the Ocean Beach Street Fair - June 24!

True Stories will be performing at the Ocean Beach Street Fair, this Saturday June 24 at 1:30 pm on the Bacon Sun Stage at the corner of Bacon and Niagara streets. The festival has five stages, with other artists on this stage set to include: The Routine, Jeff Berkeley, Stone Horse, Jefferson Jay, Cardinal Moon and The Millionaire Beach Bums.

True Stories included on new "Dizzy Spells" compilation

True Stories is one of 40 San Diego based bands included on the new compilation, Dizzy Spells. The album includes a new song, "The Last Time Life Was Perfect," recorded with producer Alan Sanderson, featuring Bart Mendoza (vocals / guitar), Normandie Wilson (vocals), David Fleminger (keyboards, lead guitar), Danny Cress (drums) and Orrick Smith (bass). Others tracks include songs by Schizophonics, The Bassics, Birdy Bardot, Buckfast Superbee, Creepseed, Bit Maps, Gloomsday, Oh Spirit, Geezer and many more!

Tonight in San Diego June 12 2017 - True Stories

Bart Mendoza sat in with the Tonight in San Diego band, The Mondaz, during a show taping on 
June 12. Guests on the show were David Moye, Zandra Rhodes and musical guest, Lisa Sanders. The Mondaz, featuring Trish Naval, Richard Galiguis and Nina Leilani, play theme music as well as for a few moments before and after segments (ie bumper music coming in and out of commercials / breaks). For this segment music played included two True Stories songs penned by Mendoza, "Can't Seem To Make You Mine" and "Hearts On Sleeve," as well as The Partridge Family classic, "I Woke Up In Love This Morning." During a break in taping towards the end, "Can't Seem To Make You Mine" was played again as part of an audience participation dance contest.

Songwriters Acoustic Nights - Powerpop Edition Sept. 16

New Shambles track on "Sweet Relief 4" compilation

"Sweet Relief 4 - is a music compilation series, with funds going to help fund cancer research - just out, this includes a "new" recording by The Shambles with Jeremy Morris. It's a  remake of Jeremy's song, "It's Getting Better" with additional tracks from The Posies, The Records, The Lemon Clocks, The Eddies, Lolas, Overly Polite Tornadoes and over a dozen more.

Sounds Like San Diego VIII - July 8 at the Museum of Making Music



Sounds like San Diego VIII
The eighth edition of Sounds Like San Diego, will once again feature some of today’s top local artists performing their takes on songs made famous by artists from San Diego, 1960 – Today. The evening also includes appearances by some of the original musicians, performing their classics, with music historian Bart Mendoza giving commentary on the area’s rich musical history throughout.


Sounds Like San Diego VIII’s song selections will include music from Iron Butterfly, The Cascades, Switchfoot, Jack Tempchin, David Gates, JJ Cale, Ratt and more!

For this show there will be three themes running through the fast paced show, with singer-songwriters, musical pioneers and sixties soul all part of the mix of sounds. This year’s performers are:

Jesse Davis : The legendary Northern soul singer will sing his 1967 classic “Gonna Hang On In There Girl.”

The Dinettes: This pioneering all female bands’ first show in 37 years! The Dinettes helped set the template indie rockers follow today. The night includes original members Doriot Lair, Sue Delguidice, Joyce Rooks and Irene Liberatore (Dolan).

Wayne Riker: Author and guitarist (jazz and blues a specialty), winner of the 2017 San Diego Music Awards Lifetime Achievement trophy.

Johnny Vernazza: Former guitarist with 70’s hitmakers, the Elvin Bishop Group, played with Van Morrison etc. He will join in on an AM Radio classic. 

True Stories: An all-star group of musicians that includes David Fleminger, Normandie Wilson, Symea Solomon and Greg Smith.

Pony Death Ride: Acclaimed husband and wife musical comedy duo.

Plus appearances from Jason Hanna, Diana Death, Nina Francis, Peter Hall, Marie Haddad, Scott Mathiasen and more, all adding up to a fun night celebrating San Diego’s music community!
