Sounds Like San Diego VIII - July 8 at the Museum of Making Music



Sounds like San Diego VIII
The eighth edition of Sounds Like San Diego, will once again feature some of today’s top local artists performing their takes on songs made famous by artists from San Diego, 1960 – Today. The evening also includes appearances by some of the original musicians, performing their classics, with music historian Bart Mendoza giving commentary on the area’s rich musical history throughout.


Sounds Like San Diego VIII’s song selections will include music from Iron Butterfly, The Cascades, Switchfoot, Jack Tempchin, David Gates, JJ Cale, Ratt and more!

For this show there will be three themes running through the fast paced show, with singer-songwriters, musical pioneers and sixties soul all part of the mix of sounds. This year’s performers are:

Jesse Davis : The legendary Northern soul singer will sing his 1967 classic “Gonna Hang On In There Girl.”

The Dinettes: This pioneering all female bands’ first show in 37 years! The Dinettes helped set the template indie rockers follow today. The night includes original members Doriot Lair, Sue Delguidice, Joyce Rooks and Irene Liberatore (Dolan).

Wayne Riker: Author and guitarist (jazz and blues a specialty), winner of the 2017 San Diego Music Awards Lifetime Achievement trophy.

Johnny Vernazza: Former guitarist with 70’s hitmakers, the Elvin Bishop Group, played with Van Morrison etc. He will join in on an AM Radio classic. 

True Stories: An all-star group of musicians that includes David Fleminger, Normandie Wilson, Symea Solomon and Greg Smith.

Pony Death Ride: Acclaimed husband and wife musical comedy duo.

Plus appearances from Jason Hanna, Diana Death, Nina Francis, Peter Hall, Marie Haddad, Scott Mathiasen and more, all adding up to a fun night celebrating San Diego’s music community!
